- About Our Shawnee Oklahoma Auto Body Shop -
Downtown Auto Body opened on Main Street in Shawnee in May 2017, after Kim and Michael Johnson spent months bringing the historic downtown Shawnee building at 118 West Main back to life. Nine years later, the shop is a fixture of downtown Shawnee, a working body shop on a working main street, where the front door faces traffic and the work is always going.
The day-to-day work is collision and paint. We repair dents, scratches, hail damage, deer-collision damage, and full wrecks. We’re I-CAR certified, we match factory color, and every repair is backed by a lifetime warranty on our workmanship. Most cars that come through are daily drivers: somebody’s commute, somebody’s family hauler, somebody’s first car. We treat them that way.
One thing that sets us apart: we don’t contract with any insurance company. We’re not on anyone’s “preferred shop” list, and that’s a deliberate choice. Those agreements come with rules about which parts to use, how quickly to turn the car around, and what the labor rate has to be, and those rules pull toward the insurance company’s interests, not the customer’s. We accept every insurance company, and we’ll handle the claim paperwork so you don’t have to chase phone calls and forms. But the work itself is done for the person whose car it is no a person in an office at an insurance company across the country
Under the same roof, DTAB Customs is our custom side. DTAB is short for Down Town Auto Body. It’s where Michael’s lifelong love of paint and metalwork shows up: hot rods, full restorations, color changes, and project builds for customers who want more than a repair. DTAB Customs has been on the floor at SEMA and Goodguys, with multiple class wins at Goodguys events across several builds and several years.
Every June, we close down four blocks of Main Street in front of the shop and host the Downtown at Sundown Car Show. A $1,000 Best-of-Show prize, top 20 trophies, food trucks, a live band, and free admission for spectators. Entry fees and day-of proceeds go to the MRCA Youth Rodeo Association to help fund their finals prizes. The show has grown every year, and it’s one of our favorite weekends.
We’re family-owned, locally operated, and rated A+ by the Better Business Bureau. We’re not part of a chain, and we don’t have an out-of-state corporate office. Kim and Michael run the shop themselves, five days a week, on the floor, so when you call (405) 432-5343, you’ll talk to one of them directly. Not a call center.
Michael Johnson
Michael grew up learning paint & body skills from anyone who would teach him. Some kids played sports, he was at a VoTech leaning as the youngest in a class of adults. Now as the owner of Downtown Auto Body he serves his community repairing collisions, hail damage, & creating custom hotrods for clients all over the country.
Kim Johnson
Kim was raised around cars her entire life. As a young professional she worked her way up the ladder at body shops & dealerships managing operations. Now she brings those years of expertise to her hometown at Downtown Auto Body.
